Run and Set
A two-player rummy game against the computer. Build sets and runs, knock when your leftover cards are low, and race to 50 points.
How to play
- Each player holds 10 cards. On your turn, take the top discard or draw from the stock, then throw one card away.
- A meld is three or four cards of the same rank, or three or more in a row in the same suit. Aces are low. Melds are shown with green borders.
- Cards outside melds are deadwood. Face cards count 10, aces count 1, and the rest count their number.
- Knock when your deadwood is 10 or less. If it is lower than the computer's you score the difference. Gin, with no deadwood, adds a 25 bonus. First to 50 wins the match.
Tips and strategy
- Do not take the discard unless it completes a meld or clearly lowers your deadwood.
- Throw high cards you cannot meld early. A king left in your hand costs 10 points if the computer knocks.
- If the computer knocks with low deadwood you may undercut it. Matching or beating its count scores you the bonus.
- The stock running low ends the hand as a draw, so do not wait too long to knock.
FAQ
- Can I lay off cards onto the knocker's melds?
- No. This version skips laying off to keep each hand quick.
- What is an undercut?
- If the knocker's deadwood is not lower than the other player's, the other player wins the hand and gets a 25 point bonus.
- Where is my record kept?
- Your wins and losses are stored in your browser on this device only.
