Hearts Table

The classic trick taking card game for four. Dodge the hearts and the queen of spades, or take them all and shoot the moon. Play against three computer players.

How to play

  1. Each hand has 13 tricks. The player holding the two of clubs leads it. Everyone must follow the lead suit if they can.
  2. Whoever plays the highest card of the lead suit takes the trick. Every heart you take costs 1 point and the queen of spades costs 13.
  3. You cannot lead a heart until a heart has been played in an earlier trick, unless your hand holds nothing else.
  4. Take all 13 hearts and the queen of spades in one hand to shoot the moon: you score 0 and everyone else scores 26.
  5. Play hand after hand until someone reaches the target score, 50 or 100. The lowest total wins.

Tips and strategy

  • Get rid of high spades early, because the queen of spades is easier to dodge when someone else is forced to play it.
  • Low cards in a long suit are safe. High cards in a short suit are a risk, so play them while the trick is still clean.
  • Use the Hint button for a suggested card, and read why it works.
  • If you hold many hearts and top cards, shooting the moon can beat a bad hand, but it only works if you win everything.

FAQ

Do I pass cards before each hand?
No. This version skips passing so every hand starts straight away.
How do the computer players decide?
They follow a fixed set of rules: avoid points, dump the queen of spades when safe, and play high cards when no points are at stake. They do not see your hand.
Does the game save my progress?
It saves your wins and games played. A game in progress is not saved if you leave the page.
