Number Line Jump
Slide to where a number belongs on an empty number line, from whole numbers to decimals and fractions, and see how close you got.
How to play
- You are shown a number and a line with only its two end values marked.
- Drag the slider to where you think the number belongs, then press Place it.
- The real position is revealed with your score. Closer guesses earn up to 10 points.
- There are 10 rounds, moving from whole numbers to negatives, decimals and a fraction.
Tips and strategy
- Find the middle of the line first and decide whether the number is above or below it.
- For decimals between 0 and 1, picture the line as 100 equal steps.
- For fractions, think of the matching decimal. 3/4 is 0.75.
- Getting within 2 percent of the line length scores the full 10 points.
FAQ
- Is there a timer?
- No. Take as long as you like on each number.
- How is my score worked out?
- It depends on how far your guess is from the real spot as a share of the whole line. A tiny miss still scores 10.
- Do negative numbers appear?
- Yes. Two rounds use a line from -10 to 10 so you practice both sides of zero.
