Guess the Unit
Estimate real-world sizes, weights, times and speeds in the unit you are given. Closer is better.
How to play
- Each question asks about a real-world measurement and tells you which unit to answer in.
- Type your best estimate and press Guess. There are eight questions per round.
- You score up to 100 per question. The score depends on how many times too high or too low you were, so a guess within 5% earns almost full marks.
- The Daily round is the same for everyone on a given UTC day. Practice rounds are random.
Tips and strategy
- Anchor on something you know: a storey is about 3 m, a marathon is about 42 km, a litre of water weighs 1 kg.
- Get the order of magnitude right first. A guess that is 10 times off scores nothing, one that is 2 times off still earns points.
- Convert in your head: 1 mile is about 1.6 km, 1 kg is about 2.2 lb, 1 m/s is 3.6 km/h.
- When unsure, answer in the middle of your range; over- and under-shooting are scored the same.
FAQ
- How is the score calculated?
- On a log scale. An exact answer scores 100, an answer 2 times off scores about 57, and anything around 5 times too high or too low scores 0.
- Where can I convert units myself?
- After each question there is a link to the CalcoTools unit converter so you can check the maths.
