Cage Math
Fill the grid so no number repeats in a row or column, and every outlined cage hits its target with the shown sign. A new 5 by 5 every day plus 4, 5 and 6 sized puzzles.
How to play
- Fill every square with a number from 1 up to the grid size so that no number repeats in any row or column.
- The thick outlines group squares into cages. Each cage shows a target and a sign, such as 12× or 3−.
- The numbers in a cage must combine to the target. For minus, subtract the smaller from the larger. For divide, divide the larger by the smaller.
- A cage with just a number and no sign is a single square that must hold exactly that number.
Tips and strategy
- Start with single-square cages, then cages with big products such as 20× or 30× that only a few numbers can make.
- In a two-square cage, list the pairs that work and use the row and column to cross some out.
- A cage that sits inside one row cannot repeat a number, but cages that bend can.
- Cells and cages turn red when they break a rule, but a correct-looking row can still hide a bad cage, so check the targets.
FAQ
- Is this the same as KenKen or Calcudoku?
- It is the same family of puzzle. Cage Math uses its own generator, names and layouts.
- Can a number repeat inside a cage?
- Yes, if the squares are not in the same row or column. Only rows and columns forbid repeats.
- Does every puzzle have one answer?
- Yes. Each generated puzzle is checked by a solver to have exactly one solution.
