Equation Builder
Drop number and operator tiles into the blanks so the line equals the target. Five equations a day, getting longer each time, with no spare tiles to fall back on.
How to play
- Each puzzle gives you a target number and a set of number and operator tiles. Every tile must be used once.
- Tap a tile to drop it into the next free slot of its kind. Tap a filled slot to take the tile back.
- The equation follows the usual order of operations, so × and ÷ are worked out before + and −.
- Division has to be exact. If a line divides with a remainder, it does not count.
Tips and strategy
- Work backwards from the target. Ask which product or sum could get you close, then fix the rest.
- A multiplication usually creates the big jump, so place the × tile first.
- If two tiles are the same, it does not matter which one you use.
- Several answers may work. Any line that reaches the target is accepted, not just the one the puzzle was built from.
FAQ
- Do I have to find one particular answer?
- No. Any arrangement of the tiles that equals the target counts as solved.
- What does a hint do?
- It places the correct tile in the first slot that is empty or wrong. Hints used is your score for the round.
- Is the daily round the same for everyone?
- Yes. The five equations are built from the UTC date, so everyone gets the same round until 00:00 UTC.
