Cross Sums

Fill a small grid with digits so no digit repeats in a row or column and every line adds up to its target. Daily and practice grids.

How to play

  1. Select a cell, then pick a digit from 1 to 9 on the number pad or type it on your keyboard.
  2. A digit may not appear twice in the same row or the same column.
  3. The number at the end of each row and under each column is the total its digits must reach. It turns green when the line is full and correct, and red when the total is wrong or already too high.
  4. Some cells are given and cannot be changed. The puzzle completes when every cell is filled and every rule holds.

Tips and strategy

  • Start with the lines that have the most given cells, and work out what is missing from their total.
  • A small total in a line of several cells forces small digits, and a big total forces big ones.
  • Because digits cannot repeat, three cells that add to 6 can only be 1, 2 and 3.
  • Use the red repeat marks to spot a clash early rather than waiting for the totals.

FAQ

Can a puzzle have more than one answer?
Yes. Any grid that satisfies every rule counts, because the game checks the rules and not a stored answer.
Do I have to use all the digits 1 to 9?
No. You only need distinct digits within each row and each column, so a 3 by 3 grid uses nine cells and any digits that work.
Is the daily grid shared?
Yes. It comes from the UTC date and resets at 00:00 UTC.
