Mirror Words
Nine words on the board, and only some of them spell a different real word backwards. Spot the mirrors fast, like BAT and TAB or GUM and MUG, before the minute runs out.
How to play
- Each board shows nine words. Tap every word that makes a different real word when you read it backwards.
- A right tap scores 10 and shows the reversed word. Finding every mirror on the board scores a 20 point bonus and deals a fresh board.
- A wrong tap shows what the word reads backwards and costs 3 seconds.
- You have 60 seconds. Palindromes such as NOON do not count, because they read as themselves.
Tips and strategy
- Look for short words first. Most mirror words have three letters, such as DOG and GOD or NET and TEN.
- Say the word backwards in your head letter by letter. Reading the last letter first is faster than reversing the whole word.
- Each board holds three or four mirrors, so once you have them all the board clears without wasting time on the rest.
- Words that end in S, like BUS or GAS, are good candidates because SUB and SAG start with an S.
FAQ
- What is a word that reads as another word backwards called?
- It is called a semordnilap, which is the word palindrome spelled backwards. STRESSED and DESSERTS are a famous pair.
- Does the reversed word have to be common?
- No. The check uses the full game dictionary, so a reversal counts as long as it is a valid word, even an uncommon one.
- Why does the same word never come back on the next board?
- Used words and their reverses are skipped until the list runs low, so every board feels fresh.
