Inequality Grid
Fill a square with each number once per row and column, obeying the greater-than and less-than signs between cells. Daily and practice grids.
How to play
- Select a cell, then choose a number on the pad or type it. Every row and every column must contain each number from 1 up to the grid size exactly once.
- A sign between two cells tells you which is larger. Across a row the sign points to the larger number, and for stacked cells the caret opens toward the larger number.
- Given numbers are locked. Repeats show in red, and a sign turns red when both cells are filled and break it.
- The puzzle completes when the grid is full with no repeats and every sign is satisfied.
Tips and strategy
- A cell that must be smaller than a neighbour cannot be the largest number, and a cell that must be larger cannot be 1.
- Chains of signs such as a < b < c fix the order of three cells at once.
- In a 5 by 5 grid, a cell smaller than two neighbours is often a 1 or a 2.
- Use the given numbers to finish rows and columns that are almost full.
FAQ
- Can there be more than one solution?
- Yes. Any grid that meets every rule is accepted, because the game checks the rules and not a stored answer.
- What do the signs mean?
- Between side-by-side cells the sign points at the larger one. Between stacked cells the caret opens toward the larger one.
- Is the daily grid shared?
- Yes. It comes from the UTC date and resets at 00:00 UTC.
