Cipher Quote
Decode a famous saying written in a secret substitution code. Spot short words and common letters, and use hints sparingly. New quote every day.
How to play
- Each letter in the quote has been swapped for a different letter, the same way every time. A in the code might stand for T in the quote.
- Select a coded letter, then type or tap the letter you think it stands for. Every copy of that coded letter fills in at once.
- Use Check to mark letters that are wrong, or Hint to reveal one correct letter. Both are counted on your result.
- When every letter is right, the quote and its author are revealed.
Tips and strategy
- Look for one-letter words. In English they are almost always A or I.
- The most common letters are E, T, A, O and N. Short three-letter words are often THE or AND.
- A letter turns amber if you have given the same answer to two different coded letters, which can never be right.
- No letter ever stands for itself, so rule that out for each one.
