Tip Split Sprint

Quick mental drills for the restaurant table. Work out the tip, the total and each person's share of the bill against the clock, with clean numbers so you can do it all in your head.

How to play

  1. Each question gives you a bill and a tip percentage. Type the answer in dollars and press Check or Enter.
  2. Some questions ask for the tip alone, some for the bill plus tip, and later ones ask what each person pays when the bill is split.
  3. You get 12 questions and 90 seconds. The clock starts when you submit your first answer.
  4. Each right answer scores 10 plus up to 10 for speed. A wrong answer shows the right value and moves on.

Tips and strategy

  • Find 10% by moving the decimal point one place, then build 15% as 10% plus half of that, and 25% as a quarter of the bill.
  • For 20%, double the 10% figure.
  • To split a total, divide first by the easy factor. Half then half again is the same as dividing by 4.
  • Do not type a dollar sign. Digits and a decimal point are enough.

FAQ

Are the splits always exact?
Yes. Split questions only appear when the total divides evenly, so you never have to round.
Do I need cents in my answer?
Only when the answer has cents, for example 12.50. Whole dollar answers can be typed without a decimal.
Does it use real money?
No. It is a practice drill with made-up bills.
