Spell Check Sprint
A word flashes up and you decide in a heartbeat: spelled right, or a classic mistake? Beat the minute and keep your strikes under three.
How to play
- Press Start and a word appears. It is either spelled correctly or has a very common spelling mistake.
- Press Correct if it looks right or Misspelled if it does not. On a keyboard use the right and left arrow keys.
- A right call scores 10 points plus a streak bonus of up to 5. A wrong call is a strike and shows you the right spelling.
- The run ends after 60 seconds, three strikes, or when you clear the whole list of 60 words.
Tips and strategy
- Watch the usual trouble spots: double letters (accommodate, necessary), ie versus ei (receive, weird) and silent letters.
- When a strike shows you the right spelling, read it once. The same words come back in later runs.
- Do not hover over a word you are unsure about. A quick guess keeps your streak and the clock moving.
- Misspelled words always look slightly off in the same ways, such as a missing double letter or swapped vowels.
FAQ
- Are the misspellings real mistakes?
- Yes. Each one is a mistake that people genuinely make, like seperate for separate or recieve for receive.
- Does it use American or British spelling?
- The list avoids words that differ between the two, so a word is never marked wrong for a regional spelling.
- How many words are there?
- A bank of about 140 commonly misspelled words, 60 of which are drawn for each run.
