Number Slide
Slide the numbered tiles into order using the single gap. Choose 3×3, 4×4 or 5×5.
How to play
- Tiles are shuffled with one gap. Click a tile in the same row or column as the gap to slide it, and any tiles in between, one step.
- Arrow keys also work: each key slides the tile on the opposite side of the gap toward it.
- Put the tiles in order, from 1 at the top-left, with the gap in the bottom-right corner.
- Your fewest moves are saved for each board size.
Tips and strategy
- Solve the top row first, then the next, so you never undo finished work.
- Place the last two tiles of a row together, then slide them in as a pair.
- The last two rows are best solved column by column.
- Every shuffle is solvable, so if you are stuck it is the plan, not the puzzle.
FAQ
- Can a shuffle be unsolvable?
- No. The board is shuffled by making real moves from the solved position, so it can always be undone.
- Why are some tiles highlighted?
- A tinted tile is already in its correct final position.
