Flip Discs
Trap rows of the computer's discs between two of yours to flip them over, and finish with the most discs. Three skill levels from relaxed to ruthless.
How to play
- You play indigo and move first on an 8 by 8 board. Pick Easy, Medium or Hard for the computer.
- A legal move is a square with a dot: it must sit at the end of a straight or diagonal line of gold discs that has one of your discs at the far end. All the gold discs in between flip to yours.
- If you have no legal move your turn is skipped, and the same applies to the computer. The game ends when neither side can move.
- Whoever has more discs at the end wins. Your wins and your best winning margin are saved on this device.
Tips and strategy
- Corners are gold: a disc in a corner can never be flipped, so take them when you can.
- Avoid the squares next to the corners early on, because they often hand the corner to your opponent.
- Fewer discs early is fine. Keeping your options open matters more than grabbing a lead in the first half.
- Hard looks several moves ahead, so try Medium first and move up when you are winning regularly.
FAQ
- Is this Reversi or Othello?
- It plays the same classic flip-and-capture game under an original name and look.
- How smart is the computer?
- Easy often plays at random, Medium searches three moves ahead and Hard searches five moves ahead using positional values, so Hard will punish careless corner gifts.
- Why was my turn skipped?
- If you have no legal move the game skips you automatically. It only ends when neither player can move.
