Five Letters
Guess the hidden five-letter word in six tries. A new daily word every day, plus practice mode.
How to play
- Type a five-letter word and press Enter. You have six guesses.
- After each guess every tile changes colour: green means the right letter in the right spot, amber means the letter is in the word but elsewhere, grey means it is not in the word.
- Use the clues to narrow down the word. The on-screen keyboard keeps track of what you have learned.
- The Daily word is the same for everyone on a given UTC day. Share your colour grid without spoiling the answer.
Tips and strategy
- Open with a word that has common, different letters such as a mix of vowels and letters like R, S, T and N.
- Reuse green letters in place, and use amber letters in new positions.
- Use a guess to test several unknown letters at once instead of repeating known ones.
- Watch double letters: a repeated letter is only marked as many times as it appears in the answer.
FAQ
- Why is my word 'not in the word list'?
- The game uses a compact list of common English words. A valid but unusual word may be missing, so try a more everyday alternative.
- Is the daily word the same for everyone?
- Yes. It is chosen from the UTC date, so all players share the same word without any server.
- Is it related to any other word game?
- It is an independent game with its own word list, name and design. The colour-clue guessing format is a long-established genre.
