Border Guess
Name the country from its outline alone. Each wrong guess tells you how far away it is and which way to look. A daily set of three plus longer practice runs.
How to play
- A country outline appears with no name. Type a country in the box, or tap one of the suggestions that match what you typed.
- Every wrong guess shows the distance in kilometres, a compass direction and a closeness percentage, so you can home in on the answer.
- You get five guesses per country. Use Give up to reveal the answer and move on.
- The daily is three countries. Practice runs have three, five or eight, and the timer starts on your first guess.
Tips and strategy
- Look at coastlines first. A long thin coast or a large island chain narrows the region fast.
- Use the direction from your first guess to pick a continent, then guess a well known country there to measure the distance.
- Outlines are drawn to fill the frame, so ignore size. Small countries look as big as large ones.
- Common short names such as USA, UK, UAE and Ivory Coast are accepted.
FAQ
- Where do the outlines come from?
- They come from Natural Earth, a public domain map dataset, simplified so they load instantly. Small island nations are left out because they are too tiny to draw.
- Does the size of the outline show the real size?
- No. Each outline is scaled to fill the square, so a tiny country can look as large as a huge one.
- Is the daily the same for everyone?
- Yes. The three countries are chosen from the date, so everyone gets the same set each day.
