Pattern Next
Spot the rule behind a run of numbers and pick the one that comes next. Eight kinds of pattern, from simple steps to squares and Fibonacci-style sums.
How to play
- Each question shows six numbers that follow a rule, followed by a question mark.
- Pick the number that comes next from the four choices.
- A wrong pick is counted as a mistake and that choice is greyed out. Keep going until you find the right one.
- Answer every question to finish. Your time and mistakes are shown at the end.
Tips and strategy
- Write down the gaps between neighbouring numbers first. If the gaps are equal it is a constant step.
- If the gaps themselves grow by the same amount, the step is growing by one each time.
- Numbers that rise very fast are usually multiplied or doubled.
- When the numbers swing up and down, the sequence may be two separate lists woven together.
FAQ
- What kinds of pattern appear?
- Constant steps, repeated multiplication, growing steps, squares, cubes, sums of the two previous terms, two interleaved lists and double-then-adjust.
- Does a wrong answer cost time?
- No, but every wrong pick is counted in your mistakes, so guessing is visible in your result.
- Is the daily set the same for everyone?
- Yes. The five daily questions are built from the UTC date.
