Merge Hex

A hexagonal take on the number merging classic. Slide tiles in six directions, merge equal numbers and chase the biggest tile on a 19 cell honeycomb board.

How to play

  1. The board is a honeycomb of 19 cells. Slide every tile in one of six directions using the arrow buttons, a swipe, or the keys Q, E, A, D, Z and C.
  2. Tiles slide as far as they can. Two equal tiles that meet merge into one tile of double the value, and you score that value.
  3. A tile only merges once per move, and each move adds a new 2 or 4 in an empty cell.
  4. The game ends when the board is full and no two neighbouring tiles match. Your best score is saved.

Tips and strategy

  • Keep your biggest tile in a corner of the board and build next to it.
  • Stick to two or three directions and avoid the one that pulls your big tile away.
  • With six directions you can merge diagonally. Look for rows of equal tiles in all three axes.
  • Do not fill the middle. Cells in the centre have six neighbours, which is useful, but a jam there is hard to clear.

FAQ

How do the six directions map to keys?
Q is up left, E is up right, A is left, D is right, Z is down left and C is down right. The left and right arrow keys also work.
Can I play on a phone?
Yes. Swipe on the board in any direction or use the six buttons under it.
Is there a winning tile?
No. The game is endless, so you play for the highest score you can reach.
